With an abundance of kid-friendly activities, Kingsmill Resort is perfect for the whole family.Kingsmill Resort,
The rumor is false. Kingsmill is not changing its name to Kidsmill.
But with all the family fun at Kingsmill, it just might be a new nickname. From Wacky Wednesday to Films on the Fairway to Kid’s Night Out, there’s always something — and always something different — for families to share at the only AAA Four Diamond resort in Williamsburg, Va.
There is so much to do that we’ve organized it for you into camps and group activities, and things you can do as a family or just as a parent and a child.
THE GANG’S ALL HERE: GROUP OPPORTUNITIES
The always-popular Kid’s Camp runs June 12-Aug. 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily for children ages 5-12. It’s an active day, swimming in the pool, playing water games and heading to the marina beach to collect seashells and create arts and crafts. Lunch and a snack fuel the fun.
Kid’s Night Out
Give the kids a break — from you. Starting Fridays and Saturdays in mid-June, children ages 5-12 can enjoy dinner, outside time, a movie and a snack all without the intrusion of their parents. Call 48 hours in advance for availability: 757-253-8200.
Junior Golf Camp
Looking for the perfect introduction to a lifetime sport? Kingsmill’s golf camps are the answer. They run three days for ages 7-13 starting June 26 through Aug. 16 from 8 a.m. to noon with two golf professionals for every dozen duffers. If your child does not yet have clubs, don’t fret. Kingsmill will supply them. The sessions emphasize fun while teaching the mechanical foundations of the swing and the game. Each day begins with an introduction, instruction and time to practice. At day’s end, there’s some fun when the campers are divided into groups to compete, putting what they’ve learned into action. On the final day, lunch is followed by an awards ceremony. Parents are free to attend and check out the gallery of snapshots daily from the camp.
Junior Tennis Camps and Clinics
Starting in June, there are more options for tennis instruction than strawberries and cream at a Wimbledon brunch. Whether a one hour clinic during the week, a ‘stroke of the day’ clinic on Saturdays for 10 to 18 year olds or three-day camps for ages 5-14, junior players will be kept on the run. Be sure to sign up in advance as space is limited.
Films on the Fairway
How’s this for an update of the old drive-in movie? Every Thursday during the summer (starting June 29), grab a blanket or a lawn chair, pick out your favorite movie food and settle in to watch a film that starts just after sunset (about 8 p.m.) on the golf course behind the Eagles restaurant.
Starting June 28 at 3 p.m. and running every Wednesday for an hour through the summer, it’s fun, fun, fun at the river pool with games, hermit crab races and other supervised activities bound to put a smile on your child.
THE FAMILY PACKAGES
Ultimate Family Fun
Get away from it all with a package for the active family. Three nights of lodging, breakfast, tickets to area attractions, marina activities and more are part of this package, available from May 26 through Sept. 4. Take the shuttle to your choice of activity for the day — Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, or Water Country. Don’t forget to roll in the river, take a jaunt in a kayak or a paddle board on the James River or accept the challenge of Kingsmill’s championship golf courses. You’ll also have bikes, fishing poles and complimentary tennis court time.
Signature Family Fun
Can only get away for two nights? This is for you. Breakfast and tickets to Busch Gardens and Water Country for the day via the free shuttle with options for Kid’s Camp, jet ski and boat rentals, Segway tours and, of course, the indoor and outdoor pools and fitness center.
ONE-OFF FUN FROM THE RIVER TO THE TRAILS
Get Hooked: Fishing on the James River
There’s something magical about casting a line and waiting for the action, shared time in nature between parent and child. The James River is just the spot, a rustic quiet setting where you’ll be sure to come up with a few fish tales, whether they’re biting or not.
Go Ahead, Take a Hike or a Bike
Whether you want a casual stroll on the grounds or a heart-pumping trek, Kingsmill has a walking or biking trail for you and your family. There are trails everywhere with some of the most beautiful scenery in the area. What are you waiting for?
Dive into the Pools
The Sports Club pools — indoor and outdoor — are open for lap swims and aqua classes daily. But the family spot is the River Pool. Scream with joy going down the slide. Float on the tubes in the lazy river. Dig your toes into the sandy beach. Warm up later that night at the fire pit. All have food and beverage service.
Segways are magical beasts. Step on, imagine yourself going forward and — presto — that’s what happens. More or less. Segway tours depart twice a day at the resort (at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.), perfect for all members of the family 14 years of age and older to share the wonder. Advance reservations are required.
Spa Time Is Family Time, Too
Yes, there are pages and pages of offerings at Kingsmill’s newly expanded spa for mom and dad with Swarovski crystal-embellished wallpaper and natural river rock accents and James River views.
But there are also multiple programs for teens from the Just for You Facial to light and medium massage to manicures and pedicures. Come on, Dad, go get a mani-pedi with the kids.
